Cedar Park First United Methodist Church
Punch List & Final Touches

After the major work is done, there are always those little things to do before the project is truly over. These are the Punch List & Final Touches before we get the final clean and occupancy inspection — and even after we have the final clean and occupancy inspection!

On Saturday, July 3, 2021 we had a major effort by members of the congregation to prepare the Sanctuary nave for the planned worship service on July 4th. This primarily involved moving all of the items being stored in the nave to their respective rooms: Nursery, Narthex, etc. Then we set up the chairs, kneelers and altar for the next day. We had about 25 people who showed up to help with this effort.

For the first time in 68 weeks, we met in-person in the Sanctuary nave for a worship service on July 4th. In-person attendance was officially 61 with another 21 watching the live stream version. Thanks be to God!

On Thursday, July 8, the Kitchen sink cupboard was finished, the Women’s restroom door closer was installed along with official ADA signs for the restrooms. On this day we passed our final fire inspection and our final CoCP inspection, too. Hurray! We got a couple of extra fire extinguishers and four new exit signs with emergency lights just before the fire inspection.

As of July 14 more punch list items were completed: the Narthex vent grille was installed, removal of the trench fence and cleaning the Women’s restroom floors.

As of July 20 some more punch list items were completed: Patching the holes in the Nursery west wall, vinyl base in the Kitchen and vinyl base around the back of the altar platform. By the end of the week on July 23rd, the Nursery base holes were painted, the hose bib was re-installed on the E outside wall of the church and the plumbers had cut the pipes protruding through the N wall of the Youth Room.

On July 29, the HVAC guy from Pro Air came by and powered up thermostat TS-2 which Sergio had installed in the sanctuary. Neil connected it to the church LAN by Wi-Fi, registered the device with Honeywell and typed in the program for its operation. On July 30 the Qual-Con handymen, Ken and Charley attacked the remaining punch list. They got the high-priority drywall patches in the Youth Room and also in the hallway storage room. Jane will paint these when they are dry. The also installed the automatic door-closer on the Men’s restroom. They also fixed the square hole in the attic and got rid of a lot of construction debris left in the attic. They also attached the dishwasher, so it is no longer loose. They will be back again later. There are still 12 items left on the punch list. Later in the evening on the 30th, we moved Suzette’s computer from the Sanctuary to the Youth Room. We also moved the printer over nearer her desk. Final adjustments will be by Suzette.

By the end of July, all the items on the church members punch list had been completed except two partially completed which were transferred to the Trustees Maintenance List. As of August 1, 2021, Qual-Con still had about 11 items left on their punch list.

During the week of August 6th, Qual-Con continued to grind down their punch list items. They provided a trim piece for the sanctuary storage closet door and the plumbers started the job to move the hot water heater into the top of the mop closet as originally planned.

On August 11th the carpet crew was back again to install new carpet in the MMB hallway. This was a change order from the original recovery work which we ordered once we saw how nice the carpet looked in the Sanctuary Building.

On August 20th the plumbers were back to install the hot water heater in the upper part of the mop closet in the Youth Room. The kitchen and rest rooms now have hot water.

On August 23rd, the electrician was back to fix all of the electrical outlets.

On August 25-26 Qual-Con was able to get the hot water heater access panel installed in the mop closet. A new LED light was installed over the kitchen sink.

On August 30 Qual-Con “reinstalled” the old, blown insulation in the attic by raking it back on top of the bare drywall. On August 31st, the Trustees installed a drywall panel behind the altar platform carpet edge to clean up the ragged portion where the carpet meets the new tile floor.

On September 2, 2021, Joey from Qual-Con was onsite working the last few items on the punch list. He finished re-gluing the base in the Nursery and he busted up 2 large rocks and rolled the third one into the planter near the sign. It looks nice!

On September 16, 2021, Qual-Con was back again. The plumber installed the disposal under the kitchen sink and they removed the tripping hazard high threshold under the Youth Room door.

Sometime during the last week of September and the first week of October, Qual-Con was able to finish off the last few items on the punch list.
